Original Proposal:

Intention

In modern society, mental disorders are still not recognized as serious, chronic issues. They are seen as things that a person must privately deal with since their limiting factors cannot be clearly seen. Some progress has been made in the discussion of mental health - for instance all of the commercials you can see about various depression medications on tv. However, I think these commercials oversimplify mental disorders by relying on tired stereotypes, and all of them follow a pre-defined formula. They also focus on a broken aspect of our society - advertising medications as a one-size-fits all for profit rather than focusing on the actual, nuanced situation a person may be in.

See: Pristiq, Cymbalta, Abilify, etc.

I’d like to make on thing clear - I’m not trying to create a piece of work that takes on the simplified message that all medication is bad and that it cannot help people. I'm not trying to tell people who take medication that they're wrong.  My idea is to show a more nuanced picture of mental disorder - specifically anxiety or depression - than is often portrayed in these commercials while using images from them, while also focusing on how consumerism's one-size-fit-all policy can't possibly help everyone.
