In my daily life, a constant stream of emails in my inbox has become the norm, and taking time out of my day has become natural. However, when responding to seemingly important messages, I tend to distract myself from other tasks or work that I need to do, and end up working later into the evenings to compensate for the time used during the day to check my inbox. I want to keep a record of the amount of time reading and sending emails daily. By keeping track of this time, I can see day-by-day if the task of inbox maintenance is distracting me from daily tasks, or an important indicator of how busy my schedule is overall by comparison with my calendar or list of necessary tasks for that day. My overall goal is to inspire me to spend less time checking email and thereby have more time to do tasks I enjoy or to relax.
