I think in order to be more true to the soup cans version, it would be better to go with the original idea and line up the icons on their own in the same manner as they would appear on the phone, but without that actual context. However, I like that this was true to life, and I think including the iphone element is somewhat appropriate. As others are pointing out in their projects, Apple products are outrageously ironic in that they all look alike (thanks to their every detail being highly designed for a consistent, pleasant experience) yet the company logo is "Think different." They're the modern symbol for mindless consumerism. For that reason I think this image is still effective as a comment on tech consumerism.
