USER EXPERIENCE

Much of the installation visualizes the act of moving across the space by using a series of colored light tubes that indicate the location of the movement, and uses the density of movement (number of people) to determine color and saturation of the lights. For example, a group of people could be a dark red, while a single person crossing the bridge could be colored pink. This interactive installation also provides a conceptualization of Google Search Engine’s data; for each employee/group of employees that pass by, the installation determines the most recent or most popular music track or song searched at the current moment and plays it, ‘traveling’ with the user across the bridge.

HOW DOES IT FULFILL ALL OF THE DESIGN REQUIREMENTS?

The installation utilizes top and most recent music search engine data from Google to provide a unique experience. From the interior, Google employees can enjoy a brief break of new music as they pass from building to building. Because this type of installation is passive and does not require specific interactions, the resulting design would be non-obtrusive, but a great and joyous experience for those passing through. From the exterior, a passerby would be able to recognize the working employees in the office, and visually see the thriving activity of Bakery Square live.
