Outcome

Product:

I created a short video which is actually a collage of words Baymax said in the movie and constructed an entirely different (opposite) story. I used Adobe Premiere to do my project, which is relatively easy. But since I lack the experience using Premiere (and CMU’s cluster computer), it took me much time to build this 20 seconds video.

Intention:

Big Hero 6 was my favorite movie of last year. I love Baymax because he is just so sweet and adorable. From the beginning of this project, I decided to use Big Hero 6 as my source. In order to make my project fun, I wanted to completely change Baymax’s character: to make him a villain. I imagined that making threats using his soft voice must be very interesting.

Context:

I’ve seen a lot of fan-made videos before, many of them are collages that changes the story. like the famous series “How it should have ended”. I think their interpretations of the original movies are really cool. So I wanted to similar project in this assignment.

Process:

The very first sentence is easy, "Hi, I am Baymax, your personal health care companion." is repeated a lot of times throughout the movie, so it's easy to find. The it became harder, words like "you", "should", "friends","I" appears a lot of times, but often within a sentence and are very hard to isolate. Finally, negative words are rare. At first I wanted to use "I killed Tadashi", but then I found out Baymax had never said the word "kill", so I had to use "hurt" which was only used once in the movie and is blurry. I had to adjust the speed and duration of some words at the end to make the sounds clearer.

The last part, the end video effect is actually a part of a video on youtube. I tried to build one myself but failed. So I just search on Youtube and find one that best fit.

Reflection:

I expected to build a longer and fuller story instead of just 4 sentences, but it is too hard and time-consuming for a novice like me. In the past I always thought videos on Youtube are easy to make, I now know how much work there are behind the screen. Certainly, my video-editing skills improved a lot, but still not enough to finish this project as I expected. One problem I still don’t know how to solve is to make Baymax sound more “fluent”. Also, I think the plot changes in this video is too sudden, and the end effect does not really fit with the overall story.
