Rain Room by Random International

This project is currently on view as an installation at the Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art and features a large room with simulated rain that falls from the ceiling and drops to the ground. The interesting part is that the water simply falls to the ground - visitors don't get wet and therefore are able to enjoy the beauty and simplicity of rain without the distraction of water soaking into their clothes.

I selected this project because I plan on experiencing it first hand during winter break and because I think its really interesting that it uses a medium (water) that is very common but in an uncommon way. In addition, the lights and deprivation of the feeling of the water touching the body make it a very unique multimedia experience that I find intriguing.

I like that the lighting was left natural to make it feel like the viewers might be outdoors, however I think that cycling through different colors of light or adding sound would make it a more holistic multimedia experience.

While this project is very different from the ones my peers and I have completed and learned about for this course, I think the idea of depriving one sense (touch) is a very interesting concept that could be replicated.
