Intention
My goal was to demonstrate the vitality of a person, even beyond their death.
I selected Andy Warhol's Marilyn Diptych because it had strong themes of death and mortality. I wanted to counter Andy's interpretation of human life with a more positive and optimistic outlook. Both of our works are composed of a series of repeating images related to Marilyn Monroe.
I modeled my assignment to look very similar to Andy Warhol's Marilyn Diptych, but made differences in regarding to the overall message of the piece. Andy Warhol underlined the mortality of human life, while I wanted to highlight the legacy of human life. As a result, instead of having half of the picture be black and white, I chose to add pictures that demonstrate how Marilyn Monroe is still influencing life today.
Reflect on the process of making this project. Do you think you captured the themes and style of the work accurately? what did you learn? what would you do differently?
I believe I was successful in capturing the theme of legacy and continuation beyond death. The pictures on the right distinctly represent Marilyn Monroe's legacy in today's society.
I would have liked to experiment with different editing features because in this picture, the images remain mostly unedited.
