Outcome

The Carnegie Library at Knoxville is a community hub, where families bring their children and spend the day. For some children, this is the only venue where they can access computers. This places the staff at the library in a unique position to familiarize the children with emerging technologies.

As part of renovations, a light wall has been installed in front of the library. It can be accessed through an API to change its organic patterns.

For my Reactive Spaces class, we got tasked to create simple but engaging games that interact with the wall.

For my game, I used voice input to change the shape of circles on the screen to galactic ovals. Every time you successfully change the shape you cause bursts of light on the wall.  Seeing the excitement in the children was the most rewarding part.
