In Daragh Byrne's Fall Semester course, Data Analytics for Urban Design. Our DIY Data assignment consisted of a Group collection of data gathering and dataset creation as well as this individual critique of the data, as produced via a Carto Mapping of the dataset information. This analysis looked at Main Street Conditions within the Cultural district of Downtown, The Strip District (21st-24th Streets), and Shadyside (Ellsworth Corridor).

Overall, Each Neighborhood has a distinct dominant characteristic.
Downtown's Cultural District Favors a more sanitized environment with a dominance of Murals and Wall Art of both Advertisements for Businesses and pure cultural expressions.
The Strip District heavily favors Graffiti
and Shadyside's Ellsworth Corridor is a mix of all three.

Interesting Trends are revealed when analyzing the artistic works of the three neighborhoods, as each reveals its own narrative.

Downtown's Cultural District favors a concentration of advertisements around the Benedum Center,  with more artistic murals concentrating around 6th Street
The Strip District is largely dominated by eye-catching advertisements, most heavily concentrated between 21st and 23rd streets.
and Shadyside's Ellsworth Corridor is purely about the sell (advertisements) but in a less concentrated fashion than the Strip.

Lastly, When reviewing the concentrations of Graffiti across all three areas, they all appeared to be heavily concentrated in Alley type conditions.

Downtown's Cultural District while spare with Graffiti, accumulated their's within alleyways.
In the Strip District, while a wealth of Graffiti blankets the neighborhood, the vast majority encircles the Major Shopping blocks of 21st - 23rd Street, along Penn Avenue. The Graffiti concentrates in Alleys and building sides and backs, as well as side streets.
and on Shadyside's Ellsworth Corridor, Graffiti accumulates on the backs of Garage structures as well as Stairwell infrastructure.

Overall, Main Streets seem to be dominated by Cultural expressions of Commercial Businesses and the artistic flair of the community. The often criticised (for its legality in most instances) and emergent art of Graffiti still remains suppressed, to be expressed and enjoyed in a subversive nature, within the Alleyways and vacant buildings of the community.
