Outcome

Intention

I want to create a statement wall clock with geometric cutouts. Below is a sketch of what I want to create:

Context

I took inspiration from these geometric wall clocks:

Process

I created the design in Fusion 360 and then did a test run to see what the design looked like in real life. I then had the idea to give the clock more dimension by gluing 2 layers together - a smaller front layer and a larger back layer.

Product

My final clock looks like:

Since I wanted my clock to be more of a statement piece, I didn't explicitly include numbers in the design. However, there are 12 points around the edges of the clock, so you are still able to accurately tell the time with a bit more effort.

I used two different colors of wood to add contrast to the layers, and chose to not paint the pieces or finish the wood to give it a rustic feel.

Reflection

As this was my first laser cutting project, I learned how to use the Rabbit laser cutters. For a future project, I would like to experiment with multiple materials in the same project (like both wood and acrylic).
