Outcome

Intention

I wanted to create a organizer to hold my small lip balms, lotions, creams, etc. They are prone to falling over and are usually disorganized because they aren't in a suitable container.

Context

I currently use makeshift containers to hold these small items, like a watch case (pictured above), the lids to small boxes, and even granola bar boxes. It would be nice to use an actual container that is designed to hold these small items.

Process

I designed a simple box with 4 sections in Fusion 360. I wanted each section to be just big enough to fit the items, but not too big that the items could topple over. The items are very lightweight, so the sides didn't need to be too thick (I made them 1/4" thick). The container is 4" x 3", and 1.3" tall.

I sent the STL file to the NVBots 3D printer with 5% infill. The part took around 5-6 hours to print.

Product

The finished product holds the items snugly, so there is a lower chance of them falling over. The separate sections are useful for organizing different types and sizes of items.

Reflection

I'm pretty satisfied with how the project turned out. In the future, I would consider personalizing the organizer even more by creating more sections with different shapes and heights. For example, I could create smaller, square sections for individual items and slots for the sample packets.
