Outcome

Intention

I usually keep the rings I wear just on a nightstand when I’m not wearing them, so I wanted to make a deep dish/bowl to hold my rings more securely so they are less likely to be lost. I also had a lot of fun playing with loft geometries, so I wanted to explore that feature more as well.

Aesthetic + Inspiration

I didn’t have a very specific idea of what it would look like when I began, but knew I wanted to play around with lofting and different geometries.

Process + Procedure

I went straight to modeling because I wanted to just play around with lofting and allow the shape to come about naturally. I started with a circle on the ground plane, then created two offset planes above it. On the uppermost offset plane I sketched another circle. On the center plane I played around with several circular patterns before settling on a triangular geometric pattern repeated around in a circle. Then I lofted those three shapes to get the final shape, then thickened the walls and extruded the base to finish off the body. I was pretty loose with the dimensions because I knew I could rescale it in the slicer if needed.

Reflection

If I were to do this project again, I would want to play with more ways to create the same or similar shapes in Fusion. In use, it came out the exact shape and size that I wanted it. I could have made the top opening slightly larger to make it easier to reach in, but it isn't too much of a problem.
