Outcome

Intention

For my 3D printing project, I wanted to create something practical and relatively simple. I made my owl jewelry holder for the reason that I needed a new earring holder. have never 3D printed before, so I was hoping to become familiar with the software and printers themselves and I think that was definitely a goal I achieved.

Aesthetic + Inspiration

I was most influenced by jewelry/earring holders which I’ve seen in stores. My imagery of the owl was also influenced by my love for owls and animals.

Process + Procedure

I began the project by brainstorming various items I needed and would use every day. I decided to make a jewelry holder because I was using something very makeshift and not ideal. I sketched out some ideas for the holder and then began modeling it in Fusion 360. I used my sketch to outline the initial form, and then created the body and details.

Reflection

I really enjoyed the course and the process of creating my project. I learned that you can really be very creative with the program and printers once you are comfortable with the tools. In this first prototype, I think that there are certain size aspects that were not ideal. For example, the pegs at the bottom of the holder were too thin and snapped off, so maybe I would redesign them as hooks instead to have better support. I’m planning on reprinting my holder with different dimensions and also incorporating the hanger aspect.
