Outcome


Intention

Write about the big ideas behind your project? What are the goals? Why did you make it? What are your motivations?

For this project, I wanted to make a holder that I could use every day. Because one of the objects that I use every day in my life is the phone, I wanted to make an aesthetic phone amplifier, which is a phone stand, allowing to play music louder. 

Research & Context

Describe what informed your ideas and your outcome? How does your outcome relate to other work in the field? What are the precedent projects?

There are many amazing phone amplifiers in the field. However, there are not many aesthetic phone amplifiers that allow to charge the phone and touch the home button at the same time. 

Process & Procedure

Outline your approach to the project? What ideas did you generate and how did you refine or reject them? What did you research and explore? what were the design choices? What challenges were encountered and how did you resolve them?

I did sketch an amplifier that I would like to make. After that, I did research more and put more details for drawing it in illustrator and make it 3d in fusion. But later I realised that it is hard to make it a 2-dimensional drawing into 3-dimensional shape for my model. So, I moved on to Fusion right away after fixed my sketch model. I tested the speaker cutout and did re-model the amplifier. 

I thought I would draw a whale on a front plane and extrude it.  I also wanted to cut out a whole for the speaker part and the charging part by using the shell tool on fusion. 

However, it was quite harder than what I thought. I did make a half circle on a front plane and revolved it to create a half sphere. Then I did use the lofting tool to create a tail and extruded a cylinder and a slot for the speaker cutout and phone holder cutout.

I created a phone amplifier that can be a phone holder and a speaker which I could use everyday. I customised it with an animal shape. I thought a whale shape would be very interesting since I could make a speaker cutout on a tail part. 

I used all my Fusion techniques to create a whale that is not awkward looking and can be used for every day use. I also carefully measured every cutouts in order to not break a 3d printer or make my model a mess. 

For this whole project, I used a technology that can make a hole into a speaker, allowing phone to play music louder.

Reflection

Reflect on the process of making this project. What did you learn? What would you do differently?

After my phone holder and amplifier is made, I tried to turn music on to see how it works. I was very pleased when my friend said it actually works like a speaker while holding a phone. Also, she liked to put it on her desk since it is visually attractive. For this project, I used many different tools on fusion to make it as three dimensional. It was pretty hard but I learned many different ways to use fusion tools. The finished phone amplifier looks quite different from my fusion rendering. I think it is because its hardness of making a top without any supports. Or maybe it is because there is no filaments when my object was done. Next time, I would like to consider 3d printer's availability before making.
