Outcome

Intention

The earring holder I am currently using works perfectly for hoops but not so much for stud earrings. It was hard for me to quickly pick out the pair of studs I want every morning, so I decided to design and make an organizer just for the studs.

Research & Context

The main design of my earring organizer is similar to some popular ones on the market. The common ones work fine in general, but usually fail to accommodate various sizes of the earrings, so I made the cylinders with two different radii in my project. I would also like to keep the backs of my earrings separately, so there is a compartment just for the backs.

Process & Procedure

I started by designing in Fusion360. I first sketched 6 semicircles with fixed dimensions, and created the bodies using extrusion and shell. I then sent the STL files to NVBOTS and had it printed after 9 hours.

[Reflect on the process of making this project. What did you learn? What would you do differently?]

First of all I would like to thank Lillian for brainstorming with me! 

During the modelling process, I realized that I forgot to take the thickness of the outer box into consideration, so I had to re-calculate some of the dimensions. If I were to do it again, I would definitely make sure the dimensions are correct before modelling. And I would send my project to 3D printer as soon as possible.

I also found a problem with the small compartment. As shown below, it is almost impossible to get the small part out of the box if it stucks in the corner. I would also have to come up with a solution to this problem.
