Alyu is a light-based generative installation located in the central atrium of the Pittsburgh International Airport. The installation seeks to welcome visitors to a city historically known for its steel production but now regarded as hub for innovation and smart technology. In fact, Alyu, scottish for alive, is both an ode to both Pittsburgh's scottish roots and its present-day nature as a dynamic and vibrant city. In many ways, Placeholder is a microcosm for a much larger matter as its attempts to reconcile the historical and contemporary sides of Pittsburgh.
