Outcome

Intention 

For the final project, I decided to create a key holder because my family has a tendency to lose their keys. With the key holder, it provides everyone with a designated place to store keys as well as serve as decorative wall hanging in the living room. 

Process

The process of creating this key holder was to first make a modular system. Everyone in family gets one panel for the key holder and can choose to put them together or leave them separate. The first thing was to create the design in fusion 360. Each panel consists of 3 layers of 1/4" plywood, one for the base and two for the outline. The pieces were then laser cut and laminated together. For the key block where the keys attached onto, it was again, designed in fusion 360 and then 3D printed. 

Unexpected Difficulties

Some unexpected difficulties while putting together the project was that the lamination process was a little tricky. While the glue dried relatively quickly, it was difficult to glue all sides quickly and layer each piece of wood on top. The 3D printed piece was also difficult because it was snug in the holder so the top loop eventually broke off. A quick solution to this was to hot glue the ends back on the block. 

Final Notes

The project applied all skills learned during the mini. It was a different experience using the hunt laser cutters versus the ones in the School of Architecture. I also learned a new program to model (fusion 360) which made it easier to fabricate the final model.

The key block was also first created in Fusion 360 and then 3D printed.
