Intention
Write about the big ideas behind your project? What are the goals? Why did you make it? What are your motivations?
I'm interested in reflecting memory of unique situations in a device that's more intuitive than a direct record, but I'm still not sure about how to approach it. I'd want the device to capture moments when a user encountered something unusual, and then reflect that in its own design or behavior. The goal is to capture specific interesting, amusing, but not especially information heavy experiences for future reference.
The current concept is that the object records a scaled mood of an individual, and a 1-word phrase, at random intervals. When it records this information, it also stores information on temperature, pressure, and other environmental variables. As it encounters situations with the same environmental values that are in its memory, the device will be triggered to make specific responses through vibration, and will reflect words associated with its current cues on its display.
The problem is that a great amount of environmental information can be very generic, and often-times, the recordable values that the environment contains might not be relevant for future interpretation. However, it may be useful for pursuing a more artistic path for the design of the object's behavior or appearance. I've got to look at the drawing board a bit more, because I want to find a reasonable balance between the device's data collection, and its interaction with a user. Storing 1-word phrases and creating unique responses for each circumstance assists in giving the device an interactive aspect that I want the user to have. However, I want the user to have a more physical interaction with the object, besides pushing buttons and hearing responses.
