Outcome

Intention

Since I've never knitted before, I decided that a good first step is to make a simple square. The main goal was to observe what skills and issues can occur in the course of knitting.

Process

I casted approximately thirty long tail cast-ons onto the knitting needles. I then used a simple garter pattern, which consists of solely the basic knit stitch—no purl stitches. I then finished off with a standard cast off.

Product

I developed an irregular square. My tension was not uniform in my square as I reduced my tension with each row as I made the square. Moreover, my first cast off was very tight to begin with (top right corner), leading to the square curling in. Later cast offs were better.

Reflection

My tension became looser and is now more consistent in my newest project (which is currently making placemats for my table). I learned how to knit, and I look forward to learning how to purl next.
