Outcome

Intention

Write about the big ideas behind your project? What are the goals? Why did you make it? What are your motivations?

With increase in interactive technology, comes the fact that individuals leave an increasing amount of data behind in death. How can the tradition of memorialization be expanded? We want to explore the rise of interactive media as a method of enhancing the bonds of the living with the deceased through interaction that would not be possible in the memorials of earlier eras.We want to focus on the creation of a memorial involving totems owned by close associates of the deceased. Individuals would connect at a designated funerary area across the world, where they can jointly experience a customized display of the deceased life, while engaging together.

A few lines of thought contributed to the direction that we are choosing to go in this project. We've noticed a significant uptick in the mimicry of traditional objects in digital media. This goes hand-in-hand with the digitalization of information typically reserved for analog spaces, which we'd like to reflect in the objects used in our project.  Finally, we've noticed that memorials are usually an item for a community rather than for an individual. It's important that future technological memorials focus on being able to engage and relate to a number of individuals, especially as a reflection of the effectiveness possessed by analog static memorials.

Prototype

Describe your experience/working prototype: What did you create, how, etc.? What tools and technologies were involved? Include appropriate content and illustration (e.g. a concept video, a video of the device in operation, diagrams, code, etc.)

Precedents

Describe theory, concepts, and research you have performed. Describe the prior work, ideas and projects that influenced your design. What work informed this idea.

Process

Describe how you arrived out the outcome. What iterations, refinements, design decisions and changes were made?

Open Questions and Challenges

What questions remain to be addressed or questions about memory did this exploration raise for you. What are the things we should pay attention to/discuss in class for future explorations?

Reflection

Reflect on making this project. What did you learn? What would you do differently? Did you get where you wanted to? If not, why not? What do you need to get there, etc?
