Outcome

I took these photos with a phone, but they turned out fairly well despite that.

I placed it on top of a CD, simply because I wanted some form of placeholder, and the CD worked perfectly, but the reflective imagery from the CD also ended up adding a nice touch to the photo. From that angle, and the silver of the CD, it also makes the egg look like a light-bulb of sorts. I also placed it in a position where the lighting ended up being in a line over the egg, connecting the top and bottom of the photo, with the egg as the center. I took a different bunch of photos, from different vantage points, some with other backgrounds etc. I liked this one the best simply because it was clean, simple and the lighting was better.

This photo isn't just about the spinning basketball, but also about the people playing basketball in the background. It was more difficult to take good shots of the players themselves in motion, so I decided to go for symbolism instead. Taking the photo posed more of a challenge, until I found someone else really good at spinning the ball so that I had time to take more photos and choose a good one. Looking it at now thought, I might have tried to improve it by refining the background more. I took this shot on the sidelines but maybe I should have stood closer to the center portion of the sideline, i.e. more to the left, so that on either side the basketball, you can see both halves of the court.

I couldn't get the right focus I wanted for the shot with my phone camera. To be clear, the main subject matter is the guy in the front working on his laptop. I was hoping to make the focus really sharp at this depth, and get it blurry deeper in, but didn't have the settings for it. As such, it does get blurry deeper in, but his face isn't that sharp either. The emotion at work is simply supposed to be apathy to his surroundings, even though he is in a noisy basketball court, with IM playoffs going on. That's why I was going for the contrast in focus, as that could symbolize apathy too.

This was taken near South Negley and Fair Oaks. Its quite a steep hill, and I was trying to get a vantage point that didn't show the bottom of the hill, so that it made for an interesting effect where it looks like the hill just drops off, and then continues upwards. I also was waiting for the traffic to be just right, since this effect would be better if there was no traffic most of the way down. That was hard to do, since I also wanted to take the photo from the center of the street so I had to wait for traffic to ebb and have no downwards traffic. I then barely had time to take 1 photo, which ended up fairly decent, in the hurry that I took it in.

Man-made Object - Ceiling Fan

I was just lying on my sofa when I looked up and thought this would make a cool photo. The fan, from this angle, almost looks like a cross of sorts. The light itself is so bright that you can only make out the silhouette, which ended up adding a surreal quality to the fan. The shadows are a crucial part of the shot, as if you look at the wall, the shadows both give the effect of elongation to the fan blades and also block the light source. Having a bright light shine on the top blade also makes it more of a cross since the other 3 blades don't have a similar bright light. I tried many different angles but this most associated the idea of a cross to the fan.
