Outcome

Beginning steps:

I wanted to make an app about sustainability because I thought it was a great way to show how we can empathize with our environment directly. In recent years, the talk about sustainability specifically in the fashion industry has been very ongoing so I thought it would be relevant to bring that idea to this project.

Concept Model:

Rough Draft of application:

Page Sample:

What is T(Rack)?

T(rack) is a mobile app that lets you learn about where your clothing came from.

With our algorithms, we can provide you information about what materials your clothes are made from, how much waste they produced, what factories they were manufactured in, and even who wore them before you.

This app will help you become more aware of the direct impacts your clothing has on the environment and empathize with it to live a more conscious, sustainable lifestyle when it comes to fashion. :)

Inspirations and Precedents:

  • The True Cost Documentary

  • Eileen Fisher’s Waste No More

  • Christina Meinderstsma’s Beyond the Surface

  • Fashion for Good Museum

Goals for the app:

  • Easy to use, easy to integrate into daily routines
  • Helps users change their habits in a nonburdening way
  • Educate users
  • Encourages users to continue using (rewards)

User Experience Breakdown:

1. Home/Login page

2. Closet page (previously scanned clothing)

3. QR Code scanning camera - On phone camera → QR code opens in the app

4. Information about clothing

  • % of Sustainability → “T(rack) Score”
  • What factory? Where?
  • What materials were used? Wasted?
  • How many times has it been worn?
  • If thrifted → who were the owners? How much did they wear it? How did they feel?
  • Points earned/lost
    5. Rewards page

    • Total points
    • Redeem points for discount codes/gift cards for partnered brands

    Rewards and Punishments:

    • Points system
    • Cashback
    • Discount codes
    • Sponsored by brand partnerships
    • To incentivize users to continue using the app

    Rose, Bud, Thorn:

    Rose-

created an easy to use app that directly helps users empathize with their environment by educating them on how they are harming it with fashion

    Bud-

could have delved more into the fast fashion industry in terms of how it affects factory workers since right now T(Rack) only focuses on the environmental impact.

    Thorn-

How to integrate brand partnerships without being contradictory? The rewards system may seem like a backward step since it is giving them discounts to buy more clothes...
