MAN MADE OBJECT
For my man-made object I had chosen an umbrella hanging on the wall. When I looked more closely, I found it kind of interesting how much it reminded me of a person who had been hung. I wanted to go for a very simplistic and minimal approach that could represent the umbrella, but also give some insight into what I was seeing.
HUMAN EMOTION
I wanted to experiment with Klandinski's principles of warmth in this photo. This was originally meant to be a depiction of relaxation, but after I got feedback I realized that the photo more readily conveyed a sense of distraction. Here, the things that are being focused on are in a bolder black. There are lines connecting all of the different distracting components to represent the constantly shifting attention.
The background is composed mostly of horizontal lines, meant to show coldness and represent how the subject no longer notices these surrounding objects. The center, where his focus currently lies, is made with more diagonal lines that are almost vertical to convey warmth and attention.
HUMAN MOVEMENT
For recreation of human movement I wanted to experiment with rhythm. I used multiple lines stacked together to represent the hands and the rhythmic movement.
The laptop and the screen are bolder elements once again to draw focus to them. Everything else, even the hands, are represented with thin lines, showing how these things disappear from our minds when we get absorbed into the internet.
LINES, DOTS, AND SHAPES
MAN MADE OBJECT
Even with shapes, I decided to take a similar approach. With the help of shapes, I was able to make it so that the 3 main parts actually consisted of the same body instead of being 3 separate bodies. I was also able to make the presence of the rope/string more clear using alternating black and white sections to give the sense of coiling.
Altogether, with a coherent body it becomes a much clearer image/message.
HUMAN EMOTION
With access to shapes, I was able to more clearly depict the other objects present in the room.
In this edition I also chose to negate the colors - now the background is dark and the things in focus appear to be glowing. All the other objects that once held his attention are drawn with thin lines.
By making the majority of the picture black, it more accurately represents whats happening - the outside world is no longer being considered while he is distracted, and for all he knows it could just be a dark void outside of his phone.
