I did my smooth synth first. Initially I was just playing around with the synthesizer until I stumbled onto something that sounded brassy instead of electronic. I tweaked it a bit with some long attacks and declines under a low pass filter but I think I got a little lucky on this one. For my percussive synth I was trying to go for the sound when you pick a bass guitar. I think mine is a little too electronic but there is a definite thud in each note which I created by doing short declines and releases so the sound would not have time to ring out like in the smooth synth. For the weird I just went crazy adjusting tons of filters and settings until I got something that I think would be right at home in a sci-fi movie. Most notably its got a band pass filter with a very high peak in the middle which I think is a major contributor to the sound of my weird synth.
