Outcome

My idea comes from my personal experience. As a design student, I usually work until late without taking a rest. It is not a healthy habit. So, I designed a smart lamp. Photo resistor connect with a green led. LED will light up when it is dark which can help people find the light button in darkness. Temperature sensor can detect the temp of light bulb. If its cool, the green led will light. Otherwise, the red led will light up and start to blink. This is an alarm to tell you to take a rest now!! Please watch the video below :)

Scenario:

Designer Zack works 12 hours per day and gets up at 6:00 when the world is still in darkness. He always located his glass on the desk and every morning, he tried very hard to find the button of lamp to open the light and got his glass. Then, after a brief breakfast, he went to CMU where he taught visual design. He has morning class, so he goes back home at 1 pm. After lunch, he starts his design work. He has a studio which is founded by him and his classmates of graduate school. He works for five hours without taking a break which causes him have a sore all over his body. Especially, he gets a serious pain on his cervical vertebra.

Parts I use to create the circuit:

Spark Microcontroller

Breadboard

1KΩ Resistor *3

10KΩ Resistor *1

Green LED *2

Red LED *1

Photo Resistor *1

A capacitor *1

Temperature Sensor *1

Jumper Wires *10

When the temperature reaches a high level, the spark will publish the event to spark Cloud which is connect with iFTTT. Then, iFTTT will help to send an Alert Message to my cell phone which remind me to turn off the lamb and take a rest :)

Next Step:

Create a data collection to collect different type of bulb's temperature range to figure out a more accurate temperature which means a long time of usage.
