Intention

I wanted to design a clock that could easily be approached, used, and most importantly bring FUN!

My goal was to make a simple, yet aesthetically pleasing clock that brings smiles to people's everyday lives.

Sketch

Initially, I sketched a clock that resembled an avocado cut in half. I wanted to make the "seed" either curved inwards or outwards to make it more realistic.

Aesthetic & Inspiration

One food that I have been obsessed with for the past few years is AVOCADO. Avocado never fails to bring me joy and smile, and adding avocado makes any meal perfect. So, I wished to create a clock that resembled my love for avocado

Research & Context

I find ordinary clocks quite boring, but other decorative clocks available in the market usually lack details, and it is often difficult to tell the time immediately due to elaborate details. Thus, I planned to design a clock that is fun, but simple at the same time.

Process & Procedure

I utilized Fusion360 and Adobe Illustrator to create the clock. I constructed two separate pieces for the body and seed of avocado, and lasercut them separately using RABBIT Lasercutter. I chose to use green transparent acrylic for the body and birch plywood for the seed. In addition, I engraved "12" and "6" onto the seed to indicate time in the simplest manner.

Reflection

I truly enjoyed this project, because I could create a product that I really love from scratch myself. Using different softwares and intricate lasercutting machines was a little bit challenging, but I learned significantly from the process. I know for sure that I will love looking at the "Avo-clock" hanging in my room everyday. If I had a chance to modify my final product, I would choose to utilize a bit greener acrylic for the body for more realism.
