EMOTION LIGHTFALL

SITE SELECTION

The site is located at Museum of Independence, Dhaka, where there is a fountain space called The Column of Water. The space itself is special because of its rounded footprint, domed ceiling and the typical design of utilizing a water column to let the light in. This project is interacting with the elements in this space in order to create meditate space which amplifies the human emotion.  

CONCEPT

The idea is borrowed from an audiovisual installation called Aura, which translates emotions into beams of light. The nice experience in this precedents is that the light path kind of created another layer of space which belongs to the individuals themselves. For this project, the main concept of using light and sound is to create this isolated experience and let the user be immersed into a strong emotional feeling.  

LAYOUT

In reaction to the water column, the light installation is a imitation of the waterfall with the representation of light. Centered with the water column, the light columns are evenly distributed in the surrounding space. The symmetry of both the space and the installation expresses a certain sense of ceremonial.  

EQUIPMENT

Directional Dome Speaker: The sound effect is designed to be directional only towards the position underneath the speaker(aka within the light column), which will make the inner space more isolated to the outside space.

Wood Wool Acoustic Board: To create a better effect of the directional sound, the material on the ground is chosen as acoustic absorbing material so that the sound won't reflect too much into the space and interrupting the experience of users for other columns.

Laser Light Source: The boundary effect of the light is also important, thus the light should be intensive and concentrated. In this project laser light source is used and the air should also be added with moisture.

EMOTION

When the user enter a light fall, the audio and light system will be triggered and play a certain type of emotion. They are chosen from basic human feelings such as anxiety, horror, sorrow, anger or joy. One can experience the extreme emotion within the isolated space created by generative sound and interactive light.
