Intention

I wanted to explore felting after seeing some of the cool projects I saw online and thought that felting was a really cool method of creating with the added benefit of relieving potentially destructive stress and rerouting to be constructive instead. These are also an easily accessible method of creation. Integrating what I had learned with crocheting I wanted to explore a smaller scale application of crochet.

Process

I started off the approach of using the cookie cutter to format my felted owl and then wanted to add details such as the eyes and some other details. I was happy with how I could add different layers and using different densities to portray texture but wanted to explore a more 3D shape. Thus I divided the fox form into a couple of different sized spheres, pyramids, and cylinders that I then combined to created the fox form. I had some initial difficulty trying to figure out the best way to combine the different pieces and how to create that 3D fox form in the first place.

Product

I created a 3D felted fox that comes with a crocheted hat and scarf that you can dress it up. I also created a felted owl that come with a crocheted cape.

Reflection

I learned how to created 3D forms with felting and how to break down a more complicated shape to manageable shapes that I can felt and piece together. I would have created a plan before actually trying to form the fox, as I sort of did trial and error as I was trying to figure out the formation of the fox. I would have also used less colored wool as I learned that I could have created the bulk of the structure with the white wool and then have used the colored wool at the end for the accents and details rather than wasting it underneath.
