Google Logo Desk Accessory Set | Project

For my project, I made a set of desk accessories in the form of the Google Logo from laser cut acryllic.

G - Pencil/pen holder (blue)

- engraved on the left side "Do Cool Things That Matter"

- engraved on the right side "awdavis 2015"

- special care was taken to design this part so it holds together without any additional hardware or screws

O - Double-sided photo frame (red) + stand

- holds two mini-wallet size photos

- see special base design (pinch to snap in)

G - Business Card/Note Card holder (blue)

- fits standard size business cards

- can also hold larger items by resting them on the lip on either side

L - Sheet Display (green) + stand

- holds a small note, card, or image in place for display

E - Tape Dispenser (red) + stand

- fits standard 1" core / 2" full rolls of tape

I traced the current Google logo very precisely by hand to ensure that the logo shown by the pieces would match the official company logo.

The parts were all designed in SolidWorks to generate DXF files of each sheet, which were then colored in DraftSight and cut on Rabbit Laser Cutters. Custom font "Roboto" (from Google typography guide) was added in later directly into DraftSight for engravings.

The project involves 20 distinct parts each designed in SolidWorks. These parts are laid out onto six different 12"x12" sheets for convenient cutting. Parts were carefully arranged to conserve plastic material.

If everything goes smoothly, the entire set can be laser cut in under an hour and assembled in under one additional hour.
