Living Hinge Bouncy Ball

Intention

I have been wanting to use living hinges in unusual ways for a while and one of those ways is making a bouncy ball with them. 

Process

In order to create a bouncing ball out of wood I would need to utilize two types of living hinge patterns. One pattern would allow for movement in all directions and make the wood act like a fabric to create a sphere out of wood. The second pattern would provide the tension to allow the ball to bounce by only allowing movement in one direction before attempting to return to the original state.

Reflection

During this class I learned about the many different soft fabrication options that are available to me that I can integrate into my projects. The methods involving creating circuits within your fabrics and integrating sensors to allow it to react to the world around it were of particular interest to me. However, I chose do my final project on living hinges as I had learned about them in other classes but had not been able to utilize them in any projects yet. Despite having a firm plan, this project is only a concept as the living hinges would require a lot of tuning to achieve bouncing without breaking.
