Mini Pillow & Sample Book

Made by Cherie Mianhong Chen ·

My final project aimed to utilize the skills I learned in classes and handy materials to make something useful in life. And I made a tiny pillow for myself which happens to fit the color of my beddings so well. This page would present how I went through the processes and made this one. Also, I would present the practices and demos I made in class or after classes.

Intention

My initial intention of doing this project was to utilize the skills and knowledge about textile to produce and create something useful. I found some recycle materials in class, which successfully inspired me, and I got this idea of making a mini pillow for myself.

Process

I followed the instruction of seaming the fabric by sewing machine at the very beginning (got to practice some times before starting this!).

I drew down the line for seaming, and used the pin the keep the fabric fixed not wrinkling throughout the process. Then, I started to work on the sewing machine to seam all the sides. Remaining one side open, I crammed in some bedding cotton. In the end, I hand-sewed the open side.

I'm satisfied with my final product, since I could not imagine I could achieve this by myself.

Using conductive thread and other things to make gadgets.

There's just not enough time to create more robust project.

This would be the next part that I'm going to start on!

I decided to made something wearable, and this was what I created: a glowing soft bracelet/accessory.  I'm visioning this could be used as free giveaway for fans attending concert/party. With better design in the next step(such as using laser cutting), this could be largely improved.

Laser Cutting in Fabric

Use different materials and setting, do as many as experiments as possible, to find the most suitable one.

crochet

A practice demands lots of patience.

When doing demos, I also hoped to make something useful in life, which are as the following.
