Billy Pilgrim Has Come Unstuck in Time

For this first part, I made my recording close to speaker. I was about 3 feet away across a large table, holding the speaker at a 45 degree angle from her face.

You can note the clarity in her voice, yet no matter how I tried with audacity, I could not eliminate that very prominent hum for this recording.

Then I proceeded to record from the room next to the speaker. Her voice carried through the arch, but it was more faint, and the noise heard before was surprisingly less prevalent.

The farther away sounds to pick up on the echo of the voice more than the voice itself, and in the closer one the voice was much clearer and richer. I also had a constant hum from the room in one of my recordings that I didn't notice in real time, and I only picked it up on the mic. I wonder if there is some way to isolate and get rid of that sound.
