Intention

My goal for this skills investigation and proposal for further work was to practice my new crocheting skills to create a running headband.

Process

When first practicing crochet in class, I was struggling a bit with where to put my crochet needle. I re-did this practice sample several times:

I later realized that a big part of the problem I was having was the yarn, which had an unusual texture and a natural kink, which made it harder to see the loops I had crochet together. Once I moved on the yarn that I wanted for my headband, it was much easier to see what I was doing. I consulted some YouTube tutorials to clarify the proper single crochet process, and made my initial chain to the length of a bit longer than the circumference of my head. I continued with 6 rows of single crochet stitches.

After finishing the ends off, I stitched on a snap to each end

Final Product + Proposal

I was very pleased with the final headband. It was comfortable and would be perfect for jogging in the cold.

I initially hoped to stitch in LEDs to create a glowing headband for night running. Unfortunately, I lost my LED's and conductive thread after the final class :( .... but I think still this would be a great idea for a future project.

Overall, I think crocheting is enjoyable and simple to do after some practice. I'm now confident that I could do other crochet projects, like a hat or scarf.
