Open Lab: Small Pillow

During open lab, I made a small, fuzzy pillow. I machine sewed three sides of the inside, turned the pillow inside out to the fuzzy side and to hide the thread, put in stuffing, and ladder stitched the fourth side.

Reflection

This morning was very fun; everyone was passionate about learning how to sew or improve upon their existing skills and the teachers were so supportive for extreme beginners like me. Personally, it was very exciting to get to learn how to hand and machine sew because these are two important skills that up until today, I relied on my mom to do. I have never even threaded a needle before today! I really wanted to take this soft fabrication class because in a society that is increasingly reliant on automation, mass production, and robotics, I believe its important for individuals to understand and appreciate how things are made and where things come from. I have a lot of practicing to do but I hope to become skilled enough to share these DIY skills to other curious and creative people.
