I want to explore the lack of LGBT+ main characters in media marketed towards children.
I think this is a really great idea! I have many friends in the LGBT+ community, and a fair amount of them are either too scared to come out or unhappy with not being straight or looked down upon by family or society because of it. Introducing the concept of romantic orientations early could be a huge step in stopping the association of being LGBT+ with abnormality. Anything to bring awareness of the purity that can come with a same-sex relationship is very welcome. My only advice would be to make sure that the majority of the images you use cannot be dismissed quickly by claims that the subjects are simply 'very close friends' and that the apparent gender of the characters is not ambiguous.
I like this idea a lot! I really feel for the point you are trying to carry across. I feel like cartoons is a great way to express the message towards the LGBT+ community. In particular, there aren't enough explanations of LGBT+ aimed at children. I think you can make this into a very interesting project.
