Intention

My goals for this project were to not only design and build a phone holder but to also challenge myself. I have used inventor before, and I am very experienced, but this time I wanted to test my abilities.

I also wanted to practice my skills of design an object from just a picture that I had in my head. No instructions, no guidance; just me and my creativity.

Aesthetic + Inspiration

The inspiration is hard to say. I wanted to use something basic, with a defined shape, and then build something around it. I took inspiration from a photo frame on my desk and the phone holder shown below in the pictures. I combined the two and used that in my design.

The aesthetic wasn't really a big part for me until I looked at the rendering environment in Fusion. I honestly believe that once my design is printed, I will paint is a nice color. Maybe a nice red, to go with the theme in my room.

Process + Procedure

My first steps were to understand the dimensions of my phone. With a little bit of research on the internet, I was able to find the correct information, and then I began making rough sketches. I also began to write out the steps I would take. Each thing, such as extrusions, dimensions, and even side notes so that I had information to refer to. The steps I took as included in the documentation

Reflection

I have learned that it is very easy to make a 3-D model on Fusion or Inventor. However, the true difficulty comes when transferring that model to a usable file. That is where I learned the most. I learned how to connect bodies and how to cleverly extrude and draw objects so that they would all be connected as one large body. Another thing I learned was to make sure that I had the right amount of bodies. This was a huge hassle for me in my project because when I went to include text on my project, then each letter became an individual body.
