Noise Storm (BWOAHstercat Version)

Made by Seth Geiser · UNLISTED (SHOWN IN POOLS)

The objective was to overlay multiple occurrences of F1 Driver Kimi Räikkönen starting a sentence with "Bwoah," "Mwoah," or "Boh" (as he usually does in interviews) on top of the Monstercat Release of Noise Storm's EDM song "Breakdown."

Outcome

Here is the final product on SoundCloud.

Intention

The original idea was to create a version of Breakdown by Noise Storm that incorporates Kimi Räikkönen's subtleties (like Bwoah and some of his team radios). Being a fan of Kimi Räikkönen and having followed him since his early days of Formula 1, I wanted to create a track that captures his funny side (particularly his dislike for the media and interviews). The goal was to do this with the entire song, but it quickly shrank into just the first drop. Originally, it was going to be a video of the moments where the sounds occur with the track playing in the background, but that plan fell through and it became an audio project.

Context

The inspiration for the whole idea of an EDM mix of Kimi Räikkönen can be found in this video.

With Kimi Räikkönen's recent interviews post-Ferrari switch, he has begun to start more and more sentences with sounds like "bwoah," "mwoah," or "boh," giving many loyal fans a laugh in light of recent boring events in Formula 1 (Mercedes has been dominating for far too long...). People have started making remixed songs with these sounds added on top, and I've decided to try my hand at it.

0

Process

I started by using Grabfrom to rip audio from YouTube videos that feature Kimi Räikkönen quotes and "bwoahs." After trimming unnecessary bits out, I was left with the sound effects that I planned to use. I then chose my favorite EDM song, "Breakdown" by Noise Storm, and began to overlay the sound effects onto the music using Audacity. This involved spending a lot of time making sure that the sound effects lined up with the beat of the song and changing their speed/timing to better fit the song itself.

Product

The end result is a relatively short portion of the original song with Kimi Räikkönen's antics added over top. It's something that's supposed to make you think "What in the world did I just listen to?" once it's over. The original intent was to create a video in attempt to add some extra comic factor, but that plan failed.

Critique

I am my own worst critic, but I really do think that this turned out poorly. That is to say, it feels far from finished. The original goal was to 1) Create this in video format and 2) do this for the entire song. Neither of these happened through no fault other than my own. Had I given myself more time to really think it over and approach it in a more effective manner, it would've turned out much better than it did. I almost didn't make the SoundCloud link public because I was so embarrassed at what I'd done. I'm not sure I'll be able to listen to the original song for a while, for my own sake.

Reflection

The biggest thing I took away from this project was the realization that I really need to learn how to work with audio. Not only that, but I also need to learn better time management. If I had a chance to do this project again, I would both learn how to use Audacity to its full potential and give myself a lot more time to work. I started working far too late to achieve a respectable result given my current experience with audio work.

I guess the idea of a supercut can have an influence on this work, but it was not directly used.
