Blue Moon Clock

Made by austinl1

The goal of the project was to create a clock with the logo of my best friend's favorite beverage on it. I thought that incorporating the blue moon logo and turning it to a clock is something others have not thought before. The process was a challenge and I was very pleased on how the final product turned out to be.

Sketch of design.

Include sketch with as much details as possible, like: approximate dimensions, materials, layers, textures, colors, and aesthetic influences.

Context

The idea of the design came from my best friend back home who thought the logo for blue moon worked perfectly for a clock. He thought it was unique and that no one would expect an academic project to be about blue moon and he was definitely right.

Process + Procedure

The clock was outlined in Fusion 360 by first taking a picture of the logo from the internet and importing it into Fusion. The logo was then sketched out mainly through the spline tool. After sketching the logo, extrusion was used to help give the image 3d characteristics. I planned on extruding the banner of blue moon a bit higher than the circular background to give it more texture. The numbers were added on the clock utilizing the circular repeat tool on Fusion which helped space out the numbers evenly. The biggest problem faced was during the laser cutting portion which made it difficult because I had to separate the banner from the back circular portion. I used different acrylic and separated them so I had more colors in my final clock.

Reflection

I really enjoyed this project and definitely would think about how laser cutting is done in two dimensions vs how fusion models in 3d. This got me a bit confused with the banner on my clock and is something I would definitely keep in mind.

Simon W. helped me tremendously on how to laser print my different dxf files separately.
