Music is meant to be shared, enjoyed, and connect many different people. Sometimes certain songs make you will think of that special someone. And as a way to say, “I’m thinking about you,” we have created Duet.

Summary
Long distance relationships with friends, family, and lovers can be difficult. Sometimes you just want them to be there when you are experiencing something you know they would like and have the ability to share with them on demand. Music is meant to be shared, enjoyed, and connect many different people. Sometimes certain songs make you will think of that special someone. And as a way to say, “I’m thinking about you,” we have created Duet.
Duet will revolutionize the way people share their favorite songs and send love notes. Built in a sleek speaker system, this device connects to another one that you give to that special someone. As you’re playing a song you like, you can simply press a button and it will play on the other person’s speaker system as well. You can then listen to the same song at the same time. Established as a way for you to share music directly from your device to theirs, the light will illuminate when a song is coming in and the two of you can enjoy! Although our prototype only showcases a couple songs in our library that the user can pick, ideally this would evolve into a system where users could play any song and share it with their significant other through the cloud. This would allow for music to bring together relationships spanning any geographic distance!
Process and Iterations
To begin, we started with the “Connected Doorbell” tutorial from the Drive. Then we began to modify the code to be applicable to our project. An additional button was added, the piezo was replaced with a speaker, a potentiometer was added to adjust volume, and 2 songs were inserted to replace the string of notes that was in the original code.
For demonstration purposes, we have 2 songs that couples can send back and forth to each other. Eventually, this would be a live-stream feature where two people could listen to any song desirable through the cloud. However, with our skills and the time constraint, we decided it would be best to have two songs that would simulate the “sending” and “receiving” functions. Our two songs are the Super Mario theme¹ and Beethoven’s Für Elise². Both these codes were pieced together and modified from online sources and adjusted to play with our connected speakers.
