Food-O-Meter

Concept

The food-o-meter is a device which records the food you eat, and uploads it to a game where you can maintain your position on a leaderboard by eating healthily. It also automatically shares what you eat with your friends in the game! 

Storyboard

Max was not super keen on buying the food-o-meter, but since everyone had one, he had to get it. After he got it, everything seemed nice because it was a new device and he was continuously using it.He spent a lot of money to maintain his position on the leaderboard in the game. But as time went by, he lost time and interest in the device. The device became something in the background, but he never realized that it was still recording his activities and continuously posting about it. 

Cutest

This device is a very appealing device because everyone had it, and it was normal to have one, like a Fitbit. It continuously updates what you eat without you having to do it and you score points for eating healthily! 

Chainsaw

1. You are made to put in extra effort to retain your position on the leaderboard. (Disturbing everyday life)

2. Information about you is automatically published without your permission to the game. (Data privacy)

Recommendations 

Devices like this which are centered on social-media and designed for the younger generation are not usually very safe, in terms of data privacy and security. These applications tend to collect and store information about us without our permissions in the background. My recommendation for these applications and devices would be that they should explicitly mention the information that they are going to collect from us.
