It's very cute! I like that the image has some sort of cohesion in its composition- muted tones and cute things go together well.
I do wish there were more experimentation in your edits: the vast majority of the layers simply do that: add a layer to the composition. I'd like to see things that completely repurpose the previous image.
I like that you played with the idea of imperfect reproduction and consumerism, sort of mixing them into a weird and cute image. You took recognizable images and memes (Success Kid and Pusheen) and remixed them to both make a statement and just be funny. In the end, I might have liked to have seen a bit more playing with the remixing rather than just layering on top. Perhaps playing with the ideas and making them slightly less literal? Either way, the end product is cute, and it was fun to watch the image evolve.
The sequential layering of objects is a pragmatic approach to meme remixing, and allowed me to see distinctly the progress of the project. Because you used two very recognizable images I was hooked to see in which direction you take your project from that starting point.
I really love how you guys play around and satire the spread, interpretation, and mass reproduction of memes by actually spreading, interpreting and reproducing memes. The documentation of your thought processes and reflections demonstrates this and the project as a whole is an intriguing piece of artwork. =)
I am impressed by how you keep adding new elements to previous images and finally make it a nice remix of the kid, the cats and more importantly, different ideas. I think you all did a great job analyzing the meme from your own understanding! I really like the last layer themed "but cats don't care". where you create amusing contrast between Pusheen's eagerness for a goldfish and the contempt from the rest of the cats.
I would suggest that you put more emphasis on the interaction between the kid and the cats since they now seem to be two separate figures. I am really curious about the conversations between them!
This is a very interesting composition that you guys have come up with. I like how it started out with bringing two memes out of their original contexts and into one that was very mundane. To me your image progression feels very much like some sort of commentary on meme culture -- maybe like, an anti-meme -- then something that's played straight. So it's quite a unique direction that you went in, which is pretty cool to think about.
Your documentation is good and clear.
I don’t feel the compositions really found a voice until the last shot. It’s funny and a great advancement of the ideas.
Before this the remixes seem safe, and a little staid. They don’t really say much, they just add a basic element. You could definitely have pushed harder. For example the text is left untouched for 3 volleys, this could have been a great thing to remix and explore. Try to take more creative risks!
