Intention

[Write about the big ideas behind your project? What are the goals? Why did you make it? What are your motivations?]

I am trying to create a holder for my desk in studio that will have multiple purposes (such as holding post-its, pens, phone). I want to incorporate many rounded edges but keep straight surfaces in order to have a sophisticated aesthetic. My biggest concern is sizing and proportions.

Research + Context

[How does your outcome relate to other work in the field? What makes it similar or different to other objects of the same genre? How have other objects failed to solve the problem you have identified?]

There are many pencil holders, but to have the ability to create something that meets my specific needs is more ideal. Also its hard to find a pencil holder that does clash with other things on my table.

Aesthetic + Inspiration

[What influenced your design? Is there a specific style, art movement, or natural phenomena? Include at least one example. Can be a still image, video, or music.]

I really enjoy muji designs as they're simple and focus on a lot on the form/simplicity and purpose.

Process + Procedure

[Outline your approach to the project. What steps did you take to design, model, sketch, and prototype this projects? What ideas did you generate and how did you refine or reject them? What challenges were encountered and how did you resolve them? Detail what you created. What methods or techniques did you use? What tools and technologies were involved? Include photos of prototypes, redesigned sketches, design worksheets, and failed trails.]

I was thinking about making the profile and lofting it, then making an offset plane to make compartments. Also finding a way to structure this in a way that will not leave any overhanging edges and will print with little to no exterior structure.

Reflection

[Reflect on the process of making this project. What did you learn? What would you do differently?]

It was harder to transfer onto the computer than I thought it would be. If I were to make it again, I might resize a couple of things such as the phone holder.
