A deeper look into how we present ourselves by personalizing very standardized devices
I think it's a wonderful idea to illustrate the diversity in this college by making this picture with 9 different modified Apple logos and accessories. Just for clarification, are you going to create all 9 pieces by yourself? Or are they going to be photos of other people's laptops and phone cases? I like that you plan to use colorful contrasts just like Andy Warhol did, and I really think it is going to be an eye-catching art piece! I'm looking forward to seeing your final product! :))
I like how you created distinct characters through the medium of stickers on laptops. It ended up being pretty different from your original design, although that can be seen in the colors of the laptops & Apple logos, but I think what you ended up with sends an interesting message. It was fun to analyze this piece and imagine the sort of people who would use each laptop, and what they would look like, what clothes they wear, etc. This is a "societal commentary" that is actually applicable to CMU students, unlike a lot of famous art. I am not sure about the stickers you created- the "it's chill" sticker fits in with the others on that laptop, the "company swag" and "pop culture reference" could work as self-deprecating humor, but the "I went to a cool place once" does not seem to fit in with the adventurous character on the bottom right. I don't know whether you meant to criticize the personalities or to summarize them in a humorous way, but that sticker especially seems jarring and out-of-character. (On the other hand, the fact that something can seem out-of-character based on a few laptop stickers is a testament to how effective this project is.)
I like that your project somewhat mimics Andy Warhol's works, such as Marilyn Monroe portraits, but at the same time is originated from your own idea! It looks like you put a lot of thought into creating four different personalizations of macbook, as they each have separate and distinct themes to them. I also see that you incorporated some of the styles of Andy Warhol, like inverting colors. I think this led the overall work to look much cooler! I think your work is a very creative piece that reflects some aspects of pop art and your own thoughts on personalities and personalizations.
