Having just woke up and not even having to get out of bed, I am already exposed to different types of media from the posters hanging around my room. Not only that, but various other objects and clothing in my room also feature brand names and pictures that I recognize.

Pulling up my music to listen to while I do work, I realize that not only are all of these songs forms of media reaching me, but the cover art, artist profiles, and related songs are all media instances as well with the intention of grabbing my attention to continue listening.

I was required to listen to a radio podcast for another class's homework assignment. Similar to Soundcloud, I was encouraged to continue listening to more podcasts after finishing this one.

Even going to lunch, I'm surrounded by dozens of different advertisements on drinks, flyers, and different company logos on the walls or drink machines.

At the Pittsburgh Strip District, there were an incredible amount media in the form of of images and designs for sale, all flashy and attention-grabbing for potential customers to notice. Many of the clothes had sports team logos or player pictures on them, and other stores offered other things like artwork.

The thing that surprised me the most about this project was that despite the fact that I mostly spent today in my house doing homework, I was still exposed to a rather significant amount of media. Someone can be in the same room for nearly the whole day, and yet an abundance of media can still find its way to that person no matter how isolated they may be. This is even more true nowadays, given the incredible convenience to create and distribute media yourself. Something as simple as sending a Snapchat or uploading a photo to Facebook gives you the ability to potentially spread your media to thousands of people, all as quickly as it takes to choose a filter and hit the submit button. Many popular clothing brands turn their wearers into walking billboards as many of their clothing designs have their own name incorporated somehow. At this point, hearing the study about us being exposed to 300-1500 marketing messages per day seems like a totally reasonable estimate despite the numbers being so high.
