I made a 13 min recreation of a Japanese anime called Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica. First a brief introduction of this anime.  This is the wiki introduction: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Puella_Magi_Madoka_Magica  

I just watched this anime last weekend. The interesting part of this anime is that the design characters are cute, but the story includes many violent stuff, and the ending is really sad. The intersection of cute scenes and bloody parts forms great contrast and gives the story deep meaning (which is why I like it).

However, this time I cut all the bloody terrible (actually not) parts and made a new story line made up of pretty scenes. In the new story, mahou shoujo (how those girls are called in anime) is a wonderful job that defeats monster (which is not in the original anime). The ending is also changed to be a happy end by cutting the bad ending parts.

In the whole process, I used adobe premiere 6.0 to clip different parts of the anime together. There are two kinds of subtitles in my video since I could only find the first part of the anime with English subtitles. If you cannot understand either Chinese or Japanese, please enjoy the visual parts. I am so sorry about that :(

Intention

Context

I have seen a lot of video that recreates anime. However, lots of them just kept the original ending but integrated the most exciting scenes. I wanted to make some big change to create a new ending. Although this modification will make the anime become a normal fighting anime, I want to see the effects of recreating my own story for the first time.

Process

I used adobe premier to clip scenes. The first problem is how to connect two scenes smoothly. My first thought was to use black screen. But later I found that there was transition scene in the anime itself, so I just used those.

The second problem is the choice of scenes. Since the whole anime is more than 6 hours long, I had to choose special scenes in the anime. I scanned the anime again and picked the happy stories. 

Reflection

The first improvement I would make is to make the subtitles the same. Conformity is really important to make a story looks real. The second improvement would be adding my own elements into the anime. For example, modify some of the music to fit the story I wanted to create. I can add some fun music in some fun scenes, and make it a sweet story.
