Choose a prior project or concept from this semester and advance it to the stage where it is installation ready. You should cater for all reasonable considerations to produce a high quality, robust and polished piece. Both aesthetics, intent and context should be balanced and the work should be understood by a general audience.

This is a great educational goal for an artistic project. The ukulele is also an unconventional instrument to use to attempt to teach the topic. Projection mapping seems like a technology that will grab a child's attention and foster an unprecedented appreciated for both tech and the instrument and learning about music while playing music.
I like your idea a lot, and I agree that combining pictures of various spots in CMU with different art styles is really cool. I would recommend surrealism artists like Magritte, Dali, and Escher. You can even play with the idea of time and infinite space if you have enough time. I look forward to your outcome, good job!
I am really interested in your project, especially how you are going to execute the part where you say stars will fall and become lights in the buildings when clapping is detected. The idea of building an installation that simulates how human beings force impact on nature is also really beautiful. However, to be honest, I think it might be a little too challenging to accomplish; you might have to compromise some of the effects you want to achieve during the process when you figure that the project is way too complicated, but I am really looking forward to your outcome and I hope that it works out!
I really like the idea behind this project. I think the idea fits very well with the song that you chose. Definitely has potential to be a very interesting and mesmerizing experience. I will say that to get this right and polished will involve a lot of testing with how materials refract the projection, which angles are ideal viewing, etc, so there are a lot of variables to deal with. I like the idea about adding indeterminacy with coding fish, but I think that this is a lower priority work item. Try to focus on the simple things first to get more of a idea of how the project flows. That way if you wanna incorporate something more complex it'll be easier to see how it is going to fit. Overall though good job! I really look forward to seeing how this turns out.
This idea really has potential and I really like that fact that part of the motivation behind reworking this work comes from your inner-critic. I think working in insights on modern sensibilities is a very nice touch. It's not essential to the purpose of being viral but it does give the work some depth which gives you room to really make funny and meaningful at the same time. I would suggest as far making it installation ready that you really consider the framing of the mash up. Ultimately, that is the means through which the audience will interact with the piece. So putting the thought into that as well will enhance your work not only as a funny video but as an art installation. I am definitely interested to see how the result turns out. Good luck!
I think the ideas behind this project are really great and I like that you have a clear purpose and message behind your project! I love the interaction ideas you have planned, and I think your project can be really successful if you manage to create an environment and user interface that is easy to use and that does not detract from the rest of your project. I agree that there are some technical specifications that might be challenging, and I think it will be really important to make the project immersive, despite it being a relatively small scale installation in the library. It would be really interesting to see what you decide to do in terms of projections, perhaps using multiple projectors to have a 3d space using the ceiling, wall, and floor? I also think that it would be helpful to have a clear way of explaining how the interaction works so that users can easily experience your project. I can't wait to see how it turns out!
I think the overall idea behind this project is interesting, although you still have a lot to decide about what type of data you want to use and the reason behind what you end up choosing. I think using real time statistics is really interesting, and once you find something that is meaningful to you it will be a lot easier to come up with the specifics for your project. This is a work that might be useful in providing context and some inspiration for your project that I found compelling: http://www.lozano-hemmer.com/sway.php
Good luck!
I like the idea of revisiting a piece that you were previously unsatisfied with. It shows passion for the art!
I would like to see what path you guys are taking to iterating over the previous work. How much do you want to change? What exactly upset you about your previous attempt?
I really like the idea behind this project, and I think it has a great potential. The important thing is probably to find a way to integrate the funny things and revelation of modern sensibilities and to find a balance between bloopers and other sci-fi movies. The interaction and presentation of this project is also important, and I look forward to seeing how the audience can interact with it.
I like your project a lot- reading through your documentation made me want to visit and experience this work. I think the concept has great potential. It will be very cool to see the empty tank contrasting against the lively shadows of fish!
Your project proposal is very clear and detailed, and it was very easy to read!
I really like the idea behind the project and I can see that you have put a lot of thoughts into the project already from the proposal. You certainly have most things planned out, but I would say that maybe you can let the plot flow on its own a little since unexpected things might happen during the process. The way of presenting it is also important. Overall it seems to have a great potential.
I like the concept behind this, and it has potential to be a really amazing and beautiful project. Reading your proposal, I'm not 100% clear about what the final product would look like, and what physical materials or technology you would need to implement it. I think a more difficult aspect of this project is going to be finding the right materials, both technical and physical, to create the unique experience you're intending. I think the user interaction is going to be something very interesting and enjoyable.
It seems like you have a lot of this very well thought out. I might consider a little more about the presentation of this in the library, but it definitely seems like an interesting plotline for the animation.
My main concern is in how much you are actually adapting the concept that you are "stealing." I feel that Remix is a fundamental part of this course, so I would advise finding some ways to further the concept. Definitely flesh out the concept of using objects of different shapes and sizes, or perhaps add sound as Kai suggested.
I think your idea is great and your sketch is clear. I would like to see how you incorporate this beautiful forest scene into the hunt library. I think you probably want to explore on the meaning and implementation of your project. Is it built to provide the students with a soothing environment? Where is the best site for the installation? Also, you may also consider using sounds like bird singing in your project.
I really like the idea of adding interactive elements to the project. Perhaps you could consider literally integrating adsense into the work, so that real advertisements peek behind the paintings. Also consider animating the painting/advertisement to improve the aesthetics of the project.
You idea of incorporating physics principles to an art project is amazing! Last time your project looked really nice in the dark room, and I really look forward to seeing you carrying it out in Unity (or in some other softwares). I would like to see how materials matter in Newton's cradle, and I think it would be really nice if you can still maintain the interactivity of your project. You may want to consider how to invite the audience to interact with your software-based project like last time when they are allowed to play with the transparent spheres.
I think your project has a lot of potential. The intent is very clear, and it is definitely feasible to create something in the style of Banksy. It is also a great idea to animate the picture by making the child "breathe". Something that I would suggest is perhaps making your artwork more expressive than your previous attempts. You said your work would be "less political and have a more general appeal", but I think it is fine to do something controversial, as long as it's well-intended. Looking forward to seeing your final work!
I really like the idea of your project as I quite enjoyed "Blinking". I think your project is well intended, but you might want to think about the ways that you would make the audience participate in the performance. Also it seems a lot of work to me that you are pinpointing the webcams into each other's eyes. The way to put the webcam on the participant is also something to think about. That said, I really look forward to seeing your project!
I like the idea of a "choose-your-own-adventure" comic. It can allow choice while still guiding the reader through a constructed narrative. Maybe research memes relating to the two characters - one silly (and maybe NSFW) example that comes to mind is Dolan.
Perhaps a good idea would be to think more about your end goal; I'm curious, why the choice of Mickey and Donald? What are the issues raised by meme-like comic strips? It seems like it could be a fun adventure to follow if the idea is well-thought out. Also, how will it fit into an installation? Maybe part of the following could be to find the next piece and paste the pieces around the library - somehow tying the adventure to CMU culture. There are a lot of ways to go with this, and I'm curious to see how it'll turn out.
I look forward to seeing what the outcome(s) will be. :)
I think VR will be a great fit for this project. It should really enhance the effects of the works. I'm curious as to how you plan to have people move around the museum. You could use a controller or the keyboard controls, both providing different experiences. Or you could have the viewer float around and possibly control with gradual head movements. Something to consider.
The idea behind this project, i.e. the relationship between human and nature, is thoughtful and I like it a lot.
The negative impact of human activities has been mentioned at the beginning of the proposal, but are you going to emphasize that part in the project? If so, the effect that stars will fall down and become lights in the buildings, in my opinion, does not seem to be very negative (it will probably be very appealing instead)… Still, it will be an artful representation about the impact of human activities on nature, which relates to the big idea well. Also, it seems that you would like to have several stages in the work; so, questions like, will there be any transitions in between? How will you make/indicate them and how long will each stage be? and etc. need to be considered. Some other details, such as the natural sounds (i.e. what kind of natural sounds will you use and how to incorporate it) need to be worked out as well.
But, overall, I believe that this project will have a beautiful and engaging outcome; looking forward to it!
I like this project very much and it will be meaningful for you to “make it a somewhat educational experience” for children. The idea to extend the board to the floor is very appropriate and will make the game more engaging; but I guess you need to find a good place to set the projector, or work with it a bit to reach the ideal effect of projection that you expect. Also, maybe a recorded video about how to interact with the game can be added aside as instructions of the game. As to using the major musical scale, I think people’s familiarity with it will make the game more approachable; however, you might want to develop several modes (ie. different difficulty levels) for the game as older children might have already memorized the scales very well and would like to play a more challenged version :)
P.S. A more technologically-advanced idea (in my opinion) would be instead of having the sound first, the installation will work in a way (much like a musical instrument) that when a child stand on a dot of certain color, a corresponding note from the major scale will be played. Thus, when a lot of children are involved, they can work together to create some melodies. Even when there is only one child, he/she can still have a lot of fun with it by moving around and stepping or touching multiple dots at the same time or consecutively.
(similar idea to 21 swing --https://vimeo.com/40980676, but with colorful dots~)
I think the concept of this project is very interesting, to take the original intent of Newton's cradle and try to revive it in a modern context. I'm curious how altering the physics of the cradle will create different outcomes, and how this idea will be translated into media art. There is some work to be done in terms of figuring out the details of this project, but I'm really interested to see where it will end up.
I think this idea has a lot of potential. It is something that would be far-reaching due to the popularity of The Office, and also something which would be hopefully relatable to even those who are unfamiliar with the show. Once the content is more well developed and you find an appropriate trailer to model it after, I look forward to seeing the outcome.
This is a very interesting idea, and could result in an awesome piece. That kind of technology would be cool to develop. I fear that coming up with a program like this might be too much work for the time that you have, but hopefully you are able to complete creating what you are looking for. I like the idea of applying this to pictures of CMU, that could be pretty neat. Again, very cool idea and I look forward to seeing what you come up with.
This looks like it could be a pretty cool idea, and I really think it could be a great installation. I especially like the idea of including interactivity in your piece by allowing any visitors to move the dragon. You guys might even be able to play with color choices or light in order to create a better experience because I know that with the type of dragon you are going for, they are often very colorful and vibrant. I look forward to seeing what you come up with.
The result of this would be really cool. I think the next thing to do is to refine what the outcome will be and what it will mean. In your short presentation today, you mentioned that you were considering taking pictures of various places around CMU and applying art styles on that. What is the symbolism of this? I'm sure it will look good, though. You could apply some Andy Warhol styles overtop images of CMU and talk about how he went here and come up with some symbolism from that.
I really enjoyed the outcome from before and thought it was very creative. The refinements you're making with using major musical scales for learning purposes is a great idea. Even someone who is tone deaf like me could comprehend and recognize these differences, whereas I had trouble differentiating between different ukulele chords. It is also better for teaching children because it boils the idea down to easily digestible musical building blocks. I'd suggest looking into using a Kinect or building a physical device with buttons (or something of the like) to gather input and automate the process so it's a streamlined, integrated experience rather than manually doing such things. I'd also suggest trying to avoid the "learning without realizing it" and more embrace the learning aspect. Kids are sharper than most people give them credit for, and they often realize when a game is supposed to be educational vs not educational. I'd also look into educational video games to get some ideas. I look forward to seeing the finished product!
Based on your example photos, this project seems like it will be successful in creating a peaceful atmosphere that looks good. You may want to consider sound, as playing a low ambient track might help to create a more immersive experience. Also, it might be fun to let the audience interact with the balloons (by hanging ribbons on them), although then it might be less tranquil.
Your initial work was one of the best executed projects in Module 1, and I am happy to see it return. I think you could improve it by creating more things for the player to do. Rather than just walking around and seeing the art from different angles, you could add interactivity to some of the art, or some kind of exploration puzzle in the museum.
fluffy paper dragon
It seems like you're drawing inspiration from the paper leaves hanging from the ceiling. This uses the same material, paper, to give the material in bulk a new form. I wonder what the significance will be of a giant paper dragon hanging from the ceiling. Also, swaying it in some manner, by hand or using a vent, and projecting lights of different color are interesting options to explore.
