I think it is hard to make a solid three-dimensional work using soft copy paper but the mobius strip turns out to look great. Though I have not heard the song, the text ("Restart-Ready-Go") and dots on the strips gave me a good hint about music game like Deemo that I am more familiar with. Thus, the structure and the content of work is a good combination.
Not only is this a creative project, it's also aesthetically appealing. Although I'm not familiar with the song you worked with, I was immediately attracted by your physical representation of this song to read more about your project. I think you definitely put a lot of thought into the project and your execution is great. However, I don't really see your inspiration for creating your project this way documented, and I'd really like to get your thought process behind this project since it looks so pretty.
I like the resulting piece a lot! I think it's a creative way to give a physical representation of music, and it is also very appealing. I think you do a great job explaining your motivation and how you came up with your idea. Great job!
I really like your project! Although by merely looking at your prototyped result I wouldn't have guessed that it's a representation of the song Radioactive, since it's so abstract, I do think there's a very strong connection between the audio and your product. You made a good choice choosing the dark color and metal wires to match the song, because they add a radioactive feel. The metal wires are very nice materials to represent how one feels elevated and ready to start afresh. Good job!
I really like how you considered the background of the art, and how it would affect the picture. I agree that, if you had the song, and the 3D form, there is an obvious connection, but it is really difficult to recognize a sound from a physical object. I liked how abstract it was, and yet also described the song, and tied in the mood and the feel and the lyrics to the song. Thanks for the project!
Agreeing with mdemko above, from just looking at the thumbnail, I thought it was a bowl of mac and cheese!
I think your project was a very interesting interpretation of the drop. You explain your reasoning behind each move very clearly, and I think it demonstrates a very clear understanding of the sound you are dealing with.
I think the project was more detailed than you think it was; the gears looked pretty well made. It reminded me of that one CMU logo, with the two gears spinning and the "my heart is in the work" on it, which made me kind of happy, which I guess makes me a little bias, but yeah, I did like how aesthetically pleasing this was.
I wonder if you could consider materials more; like Toya said, maybe you could have used metal, or at least utilized colors in a meaningful way.
Your project makes sense, as do all the decisions you made in it, though it doesn't seem like a lot of effort was put into this. There's more to the song than just a waveform and tacking sound. It has this overall feeling of darkness, dread, suspense, and maybe cyberpunk (?) that I think really could have been at home in your piece, but I was sad to find none of those. I feel like this took a lot less than two hours to make, and while what you did do seems very deliberate and makes sense, I wish you did more.
This is definitely well executed, since it seems you don't make BDSM gear often (and if you do, please don't tell me), and is an effective representation of the main lyric and its context, though I wish you could have done something more under the surface, drawing inspiration from some of the themes and nuances of the song, rather than only what I would find by googling its lyrics. Also, I felt your documentation was a little lacking in words, especially in the process. Even a simple caption for the images would have been much more effective than what you have.
I think this was well executed. The final product really matches the surreal aesthetic of the song, especially with the deep black shape laid over a more colorful background. It is also interesting that the shape ties into the lyrics of the song, not just the audio aspect of it. Overall a good concept and well executed.
This is a really interesting concept. I think that given the time constraints, it was really well executed. I think that it was well thought out in how the physical object related to the sound and what it meant. However I agree with Toya that by a purely aesthetic viewpoint, it isn't particularly pleasing to look at. Although, I think its meaning makes up for that, and I can't think of any better way to recreate the same concept in a more aesthetically pleasing way.
I like the way your final product turned out. I think it's important to give a voice to domestic abuse victims and your process behind creating the piece was very well thought out and well-documented. I disagree with part of your reflection, though. Using a piece of cloth could be a better material in some ways, but the paper towel gives it a rugged sort of beauty because it is what someone would use to wipe and clean themselves, so it may be more apt. Regardless, nice piece and good job!
I think the final outcome is very nice. It is visually appealing and represents the physicality of the notes and soundform in an interesting way. I like the way the folds represent the interaction between the different instruments. I'd like to actually have a bit more of an explanation of kirigami, however, since I've never heard the word before. Besides that, nice work!
I like your final piece especially since it looks like you put a lot of work into it to present an igniting fire, and it well represents the original song. But reading your documentation made me realize that your work doesn't have much connection to the song except for the title of the song. I think you could maybe help the audience draw the connection by analyzing more elements of the song. But overall I think your clay work is very cute
I think your piece is certainly able to remind the audience of the original sound clip. You represented the theme of water with the appropriate colors and shape, as well as material, and I like that the ribbons remind me of the strings that's in the music. I think it's a beautiful outcome.
I think your piece captures the myriad of sounds that occur before and during the bass drop, however I'm not really seeing the slope that you mentioned. Maybe its the angle you took the pictures from. The wire as a texture really works in representing the sound and the silver paint sort of follows that. Overall, I think you did a good job representing the drop.
The piece really does remind me of the song and the mechanical feel that it gives. My main critiques are the texture of the piece and how many gears you chose to make. With the texture, I understand that it would be unreasonable to create gears yourself, but I wonder if you could have taken some already existing ones and used those? I also think the piece would've been more visually interesting with more gears but overall I think you have the main idea of the song down.
The very literal approach you took is interesting. I think it turned out pretty well. I like that you tried to add more to it by considering the emotions expressed in the song; the heart is a nice touch. It may have been interesting if the whole thing could spin, almost like a baby carousel.
The transition from old to new looks nice. It would have been interesting to see a more three-dimensional approach, but this is still an interesting piece. I am curious as to how you would embody the second half of the song that you thought would complete your work. I am also curious if leaves are something that is personally nostalgic to you.
I like that you use leaves in their different stages to represent time. Some of the best designs are often very simple to execute, but they are unique because of the ideas behind them. I think you definitely nailed it. Great documentation too! One thing you can maybe think about is making this into a gif or video that shows the leaves slowly changing colors or withering away. But I like it already this way, just trying to think of an advice. Well done!
This is a great representation of the sound, and the gold color and round, tapered shape were both great choices. I agree with you that something smoother than pipe cleaners would fit better, but they are otherwise a good choice of material.
I think you did a good job representing the themes of the music through your work. Choosing a black box as the center is a good parallel for the music's sad tone, and cotton fits the piano part well. I am not sure how the paper represents the song, and I agree that there are better ways to show its cyclic nature. Overall, I like the outcome.
I think your project was very creative in trying to represent the sound of the drumroll with physical materials, although I think you may have focused too much on recreating the sound rather than representing the sound visually. I like that you used plaid for the strips on the bottle, as that definitely has a strong connotation with the bagpipes for me. Also, I think the even spacing of the strips is also reminiscent of an even, steady beat. Your context and documentation were both very clear and I felt like I got a good understanding of your thoughts throughout the process of creating your project. Good job!
I really liked the final product of your project! I think you captured the story and mood of the piece very accurately and creatively; I never would have thought to actually illustrate the story of the Butterfly Lovers with different successive scenes. You definitely took advantage of interesting materials, and arranged them effectively to create your project. I enjoyed reading the documentation about the context of the song, and I think you did a great job of documenting your ideas behind the project. Overall a wonderful job!
At first glance your project disguises itself in its resemblance of a food and its artistry is camouflaged. The shreds feel very appropriate to go along with the song. I am interested to learn more about how texture further factors into the project, particularly the shiny glow.
Great job incorporating the DJ style music to your physical art installation! It's really a good idea using red and blue cups to form a neat, matrix-like surface. I would interpret these cups as the buttons of the electronic remixer that can trigger different sounds and tones. I also like how you make a smiling face out of the blue cups, since I also perceive the original audio as joyful and encouraging.
I think maybe you can try to flashing light bulbs inside some of the cups, or add some colorful lasers to your work to make it a dynamic scene.
I like the literal approach to creating cranes for a song with the word in its title. It's interesting to compare the rhythm of the song, which is faster, with the motion of the cranes, which is slower. They demonstrate an unpredictable wobble that's balanced by the steadiness of their shadow.
Hi! I really like the way you turn this beautiful audio into physical media. The flowers are nicely arranged, and the red and yellow petals give me a harmonious feeling. When I looked at your work with the audio, I felt as if the petals were falling down slowly from the sky, and they really fit the piano tone. I also appreciate how you improve your work from the first draft.
I would suggest that you add some "water" elements to the work, since the clear and smooth audio reminds me of the raindrops.
I like the extension of the "loop" idea, and it was cool to observe how the different loops worked with each other both in the audio and your physical representation. I also like how your project isn't static, and it creates different views based on your perspective of it. Your documentation was great and it was cool to see your thought process as you decided on this idea.
Just looking at your project, I might not be able to tell that it came exactly from a beatbox cover, but it definitely represents a well-integrated use of sounds and loops in the song.
I think you did a really good job at creating something unique with some really simple materials. I really liked the added depth created by stacking some of the cups.
Your physical representation does a good job at conveying the message that the audio is arranged for a reason, not randomly thrown together. I think if you had more time, it would be cool to see some more personalization in your work. The video you included states "these are some songs I like", and then proceeds into a remix of the different songs. I would love to see your work continue that "these are some things that mean a lot to me, I put them together" sense.
I found this to be a pretty cool project and although you don't seem to think so, I believe you did a pretty good job for only having limited time and resources to work on this. I found your approach very interesting because you are right, a mobius strip is good for representing frustration or infinity. This was well documented too and I am glad you mentioned why you did what you did in terms of approach and creation of the project.
I really liked what you decided to do with this project. It seems like you really put a lot of thought into it, and I can definitely understand the design choices you made and your overall approach to the piece. Also, this was very well documented so great job. One thing you could do though is embed the link so that it is easier to view within the website itself.
The outcome looks breathtakingly beautiful, especially after you mix the petals from other flowers to highlight some parts of the central ring. I actually also like your first draft, but to me, that piece looks relatively too sad for the audio. As you mentioned, I agree that the outcome captures the delicacy and beauty of the piano pieces very well. But, personally, if I just look at the outcome, I would think about some audio related to "flowers" instead of "Kiss the Rain" (as there might be some other beautiful, delicate and soothing audios about flowers). Still, this is an excellent work! Great job!
Although you seemed to rushed on this homework, I like the outcome so much!!! It is so aesthetically appealing that I even want to pay and buy it! The idea to use the running-horse lamp and four pictures to represent the audio as a story is fantastic (I mean, since the graphs are very recognizable, it represents the audio very well or vice versa). The documentation is concise but sufficient; and I enjoyed your interpretation and summary about the love story~ Great job!
P.S. I would like to know where you got those materials (the cuboid, wire, etc.) to work with ;)
Bounded
I think that you have captured the emotion expressed in the music really well with your idea! I really like the part of having cotton to represent the softness and having it chained inside some grid. I agree that it might look better and represent the cyclic nature more if you had another chance to figure out how the materials work, but I think that the idea is really well represented with this prototype.
